Skill Stacking is a great way to make yourself more visible when you grow your career. What is skill stacking? It is the concept that individuals can make themselves more valuable by gaining a wide range of skills instead of pursuing one skill or talent. Ill give you an example. Let’s say you are average at painting and taking photos of nature, so you take photo and paint it or good at computers and talking to people. You can teach others or make youtube channel about it.
I think it´s great that you don’t have to master every skill to be better than everyone else. Its true that it makes you more unique if you master something, but being good at many things is too really important. Here´s really good example that you can be successful without mastering any skills. Scott Adams explained that he isnt a great artist. He is a good writer, but not great and hasnt took any writing lessons. He is just alright at business, and definitely not an expert by any means. Even tought, he has become a very succesful cartoonist and writer with 75 million dollars in his pocket. If that does not motivate you I do not know what does.
So how can we all use the concept of skill stacking to further our careers in a way that creates a competitive advantage of our own? You have been building your own skills through your life and everyone is good at something. Do not worry if you still dont know what you are good at, it takes some time. Just think about what you are interested in and can do moderately well. When you do know, you can start to skill stacking.
Even tought skill stacking is great way to make yourself more visible I think its important that in somewhere in your life you master even one thing. To master something you have to do it 10 000 hours. It sounds a lot and it is. 416 days to be exact. It can be frustrating at first when you start to learn new things, but do not give up. 2 years of your life is a small bite of it.
