I read the booklet Tuotteistajan pikaopas 3.0 to learn about productization and how to implement it into my own work as a future gold smith. The booklet had a lot of examples for why you should use productization, also explaining and what might happen if you fail to do so.

However, although being called a guidebook, Tuotteistajan pikaopas 3.0 did not explain what the concept of “productization” actually is. Failing to explain the specific definition for the term, it sends the reader on a minor deep dive on the web to find answers. A satisfactory answer was found after some searches, but what the web searches did also teach me was that the term ”productization” is fairly vague and ambiguous.

The writer could have used a little more time explaining what productization is before going into these niche examples about it. There could have been, for example, some simple illustrations explaining the basic first steps of productization. Sure, it is quite easy to assume, that productization means to make something into a product, but that is, as mentioned before, very vague.

The booklet is almost 20 years old. The world has changed a lot since; it’s more fast paced, and information is now more available than ever. Also nowadays, because of the rise of popularity of things like social media, influencers and OnlyFans, it’s common knowledge that you must limit your audience to reach your goals as an entrepreneur. Most people understand what an oversaturated market means, and many people understand that there’s untapped markets in niche products.

I honestly wish there was something I could say I learned from Tuotteistajan pikaopas 3.0, but unfortunately, I did not. I worked as a saleswoman for some years, so maybe that is why all of it felt quite obvious to me.

To conclude, Tuotteistajan pikaopas 3.0 is a 40-page guidebook about a subject it never actually properly explains. It would make the whole read more coherent, if there was a simple definition right at the beginning. The booklet is filled with ultimately basic and obvious tips and information about starting a business. It fell flat, which might be either because it’s dated, or simply because I wasn’t the ideal target audience for it. I wouldn’t however put it past it, that it could be an enormous to help someone else starting a business from scratch.
