Skill stackin
Skill stacking is about that, you dont need to put 10 000 hours to be master at something, but rather use you’re skills from various experiences, that you already have. For example from you’re hobbies, previous jobs, schools etc. Term has been made known especially by Scott Adams.
Skill stacking combines you’re skills, from skills you are on average level, but when you use all of those skills, it gives you a unique competitive advantage.
Scott Adams explained this by himself, he’s not the best at drawing and not the bust humorist, but with use of skill stackin, he became a successful cartoonist.
We all have many skills, that we may not even think about! For myself this made me think, that I have always been a hard worker, and I like to work hard and arrive on time to work, this skill Is really hard to learn, if you don’t already have it, it made me appreciate myself a bit more.
It made me also think about jewelry themed skill stacking, if you would be a average jewelry maker, but you have good marketing skills, you will outshine the great jewelry maker, who doesn’t know to promote himself/herself. So having a multiple skills, is a benefit.
Also in the modern work world, we rarely have a career of 30 years in the same company, so having multiple set of skills, allows you to have a change to do many kinds of jobs. I think that how rarer skills you have, the more change you have to make a good income also, because there’s not so much competition in that field.
How to develop you’re own skill stackin? Think about the skills you already have? What skills would support each other? Remember that you don’t need to be a master in any skill, just become average at them.
Skill stackin also questions the idea, that you would need to be a master at one thing, mastering only one thing sounds bit out dated in this modern world.
