The book was very interesting even though usually I don´t really like reading because I can’t concentrate. But this book had a lot of parts that I liked and made me think.
Here are a few parts that I found interesting.
chapter 1
The halo effect is very intriguing. I have never thought before how much a person’s appearance, the color of the clothes they are wearing, or even their posture can affect the way we think about them. In reality everyone is affected by the halo effect. As the book says, “the halo effect isn’t only limited to humans it also affects products and services”. The heavier the product is the more valuable and higher quality we think it is. We don´t even know what´s inside the box but if it´s heavy we think it´s something expensive and then again if it´s not heavy we think it´s cheap.
This chapter made me think about it a lot and I realized that I relate to it a lot. I have a habit of judging people based on the tone of their voice or the expressions on their face. If you smile at me while we are having a conversation, I will smile with you and think of you as a nice and happy person and want to talk to you more. But if you act the opposite of that of course I will also think of you in a different way, more in a negative light. In my opinion this chapter was very fascinating.
chapter 11
The study made by Stanley Milgram about how far people are willing to go if they get orders from someone who shows clear authority, is interesting but also shocking. People were ready to hurt someone just because a scientist wearing a white coat ordered them to do so. It makes me question that why do we think that person has some kind of authority? How does his appearance affect that? How far can people really go when a professional-looking person orders them to do something? If someone tells them to jump off a bridge, would they, do it?
Especially we Finns follow rules and orders without question. Compared to other europeans we trust the most to the police, authorities and the news. The study shows why you should give your customer firm directions and orders. If you have authority your customers will listen to you.
I don´t think i am a person with authority and i wouldn´t like having the role of the leader in group projects either. Im really bad at deciding things like really bad. My own orders or instructions are kindly said, at least if i don´t know you well, i will try my best not to offend anyone. Of course to people close to me, i might seem like a carefree person who never shuts up.
chapter 34
“your customer will remember how little do you settled for the last time”
This chapter is a great example that people should learn to just ask for more and respect the work they do. If you want to get a higher pay simply ask for it. You might not get it but how will you know if you don´t even try and ask? I think especially people whos job is arts like painting, singing, stand up gigs they tend to underestimate themselves and the job they´re doing. Just like Kevin Hogan who talked about how he was doing the same job for years but his salary stayed the same. Until he asked for a bigger pay for his gig and he got it. If you settle for less and sell your work with a cheap price your customers will instinctively think your products quality is low. Good price gives your products/work worth and value.
But i understad that some people might feel like they dont´t deserve it or they are too shy to ask for things for themselves. I am like this too. It´s very difficult for asking things for myself sometimes. But lately i have learned that i shoudn´t just settle for the minium especially if i have made a lot work for it. People should learn more how to be greedy for their own benefit.

I didn´t really have chapter really i disliked anyway so this more of that i just didn´t understand what they were going for.
Chapter 28’
Psychologist Philip Tetlock claims that the more valued specialist you are in your field the more unreliable their predictions become. I just didn´t understand anything from this chapter. How can you become unreliable based on how valued you are in your job?

I don´t almost ever read books and this was probably my first book i have read in years but it wasn´t as boring as i thought it would be. There was many parts that made me think of my own actions and others peoples actions, i also learned a lot about understanding others personality more. Overall it was an ok book and i would recommend this.
