The article:” Skill Staking: Be awesome with average skills” by Jason Link defines skill staking as utilizing various skills that you have acquired. In short it means that you don’t have to be a master in one specific task or skill because it’s enough that you are somewhat good at some things that you can use at the same time. I think this is an excellent way of thinking. It may be stressful to think that you wouldn’t survive in the world if you don’t master something. In real life you can survive even if you are just mediocre at cooking, you can still eat the things you make.
The article states that everyone has a unique set of skills. As in the way everyone is their own person and unique, so is their set of skills. In the workforce skill staking can be a power tool. If you can do a little bit of everything and are able to help others with the knowledge you have, even if it’s not complete, you will seem like a reliable person. The fact that you can do things other than what you were assigned to, makes you look active and useful to your employer. This is why many forms of education are helpful to boost up your changes to get hired.
Even though I agree with the article, I do still think masters on their own craft are needed. People want to buy and own high quality items and service. If you are going to use a lot of money on something you would surely like to get a high-quality service that blows your mind and not something you have to re-do in a couple years.
So, I do think skill staking is important. In a way I just see it as learning and being a person. You learn something and use it as needed alongside your other skills. As I am doing right now, using my reading comprehension, English and writing skills to do this assignment!
